Showcasing some of their amazing culinary skills, students prepared a range of tasty delights for judges and their peers to sample as they competed to take home a $20 Big W gift card and certificate.
Principal Gerard Davies said the hit television show inspired the school to run the competition, with the aim of encouraging students to think more about how learning affects their lives.
“We wanted to get kids thinking about cooking for the future while also adopting some of the literacy and numeracy skills they’ve learnt and using them in practical situations,” he said.
“For example you need to count to measure ingredients for recipes and you need to be able to read them too.”
The lucky winners of the competition were; Kindy – Baxter Townsend (chocolate cake), Year 1 – Lochlann McNabb (chocolate ripple caterpillar), Year 2 – Mia Retallick (mini pavlovas), Year 3 – Jordan Turner (hummingbird cakes), Year 4 – Thomas Sharp (chocolate worm cake), Year 5 – Sophie Cheney (lemon meringue pie) and Year 6 – Ellie Hamer (chocolate and toblerone mousse).
Joel Hartmann was the teacher who had the best dish.
Mr Davies thanked the P&F for their work in helping conduct the event as well as local sponsors for supporting the initiative.
Given the success of this competition and the continuing popularity of the tv show, another competition is expected to be held in the near future at the school.
