A good turnout of sixteen shooters went around on Saturday for the third round of the Rothery Memorial Trophy from 700 metres.

Ben Emms headed the list for the day returning 100.15 in the rather hot and uncomfortable weather.

Ben was followed by Les Fraser, Jim Jeffery, David Turner and Bruce Rowlands all with 100.11.

So much for the new targets making things tougher.

Apart from the tighter outer rings the 700 metre target appears as easy or even easier than the one it replaced especially in light conditions.

Whilst this long range target certainly is challenging as you go further back I think they may have dropped the ball as far as this individual range is concerned.

In second division best for the day was Bruce Rowlands as previously mentioned with 100.11.

Bruce was followed by Greg Hahn with 99.10 and Howard Sweegers 97.10.

Young Tim Halstead was back at the range again this week and whilst I’m not in the business of giving people a rap every week Tim certainly deserves another this week.

With only a couple of weeks experience under his belt and with a few minor adjustments to equipment this week the improvement was marked.

My guess is that in a couple of months we’ll have another young marksman well under way. Well done Timmy.

The ACT Queen’s Prize is rapidly approaching with a good contingent from Lyndhurst looking to be heading down to contest the final major for 2009.

Always a tightly contested event on one of the toughest headquarters range in Australia a great weeks shooting is assured.

Best of luck to all those competing and we’ll bring you the results of their brave deeds done next week!

Results from last Saturday were:

Ben Emms 100.15

Les Fraser 100.11

Jim Jeffery 100.11

Bruce Rowlands 100.11

David Turner 100.11

Rod Ewens 99.12

Greg Hahn 99.10

Robert Sweegers 97.10

Howard Sweegers 97.10

Greg Emms 97.07

Reg Bennett 96.01

John McKay 95.05

Allan Buckley 91.05

Tim Halstead 88.05

Hal Roberson 45.04

Brett Bond 111 – F Class

Shooting this Saturday for those not travelling to Canberra will revert back to 300 metres as we still await the arrival of our electronic targets.

When electronics turn up we will go back and shoot the ranges we don’t have new paper targets for i.e. 500 metres and 600 metres.
