Blayney Rams are hoping it's a case of third time lucky as they start preparations for the Australian National Field Days Cup season on Monday.
The Rams have lost the last two ANFD Cup Southern Zone grand finals and fly-half Bryce Toohey is keen for his side to change that in 2012.
"Hopefully we go one better this year," Toohey said.
Blayney lost the 2010 decider to Grenfell 29-13 and were then beaten by Condobolin 21-13 in the 2011 grand final.
"We're getting into training nice and early," Toohey said.
"We're going to be working hard to improve on things we didn't do well in the grand final last year."
The Rams will again be coached by Dave Toohey, Bryce's father, with assistance from John Hamilton.
Bryce is confident of the Rams being competitive in 2012.
"We should have basically the same team this year," he explained.
"We had a very strong forward pack last year. We are losing a couple of forward but hopefully we're getting a couple of blokes who'll fill those spots. We were lacking out wide last year and we've been ringing around trying to find someone to step up there."
Blayney will get an idea of how competitive they will be in the opening round when they play a grand final rematch against Condoblin.
"Condo will be strong again and so will Grenfell," Toohey said.
"Molong are in our draw this year and they're normally a good side."
The ANFD Cup Southern Zone competition will start on March 31.
The competition will then have a general bye for Easter on April 7 and the Rams will sit out round two on April 14 with a bye.
The other teams contesting the Southern Zone competition are Cudal, CSU Orange, West Wyalong, Orange Waratahs and Canowindra.
The Rams start training on Monday night at King George Oval from 6.30pm.
