Rams bring touch football to Blayney

06 Nov, 2009 10:09 AM
The Blayney Rams Rugby Union Club will be starting a social touch football competition next Wednesday November 11 on King George Oval at 6.00pm. It is intend to run the competition for the duration of day light saving.

The club has recognised a need in the community for a casual competition for people that are keen for a run around without the need to drive to Orange or Bathurst.

We have an indication from the Blayney council that they will enter a team, the rugby club will enter two teams and we have some interest from the high school.

Other businesses like Sealink, Nestle Purina, the soccer club, the junior rugby league and the local hotels are all encouraged to enter teams. Individuals are also encouraged to come a long and we’ll put you in a side somewhere. So there is no reason the competition shouldn’t be a success if the town gets behind it.

It is the intention of the club that it be a social competition and as such would welcome players as young as sixteen, mixed teams, women’s teams or men’s teams.

All teams will be playing in the one competition. We will be playing basically touch league not state rules so that the pace of the game allows all players to contribute.

Games will be twenty minutes each way with start times of 6pm and 6.50pm.

There will be a registration night and some games at King George Oval next Wednesday November 11 starting from 5.30pm.

Teams will have no more than ten players with seven on the field at one time. At this stage the cost will be $10 per player for the season and their will be a waiver to be signed before playing.

The club hopes that the community will support the competition as they did the Mandurama competition in the past.

With King George Oval looking a picture it would be shame not to put it to good use. We look forward to seeing everyone next Wednesday evening for a run around.
