 Duggan takes home silver

Duggan takes home silver

19 Nov, 2009 04:52 PM
After a stinking hot weekend competing at the 2009 Australian Junior Dirt Track Championships in Canberra, Thomas Duggan from Mandurama has returned home with a 2nd place in the 65 cc solo 9 - under 13 years event.

Weather conditions were horrible and plenty of water and ice was being used by all competitors to try and keep cool waiting for their next event.

Thomas rode three bikes at the titles with despite facing competition from over 40 riders in each event he still made it into the finals on all three bikes which is a pretty awesome for someone who is still only 12 years old!

Competition was fierce with his main competitors being boys who will move up an age group next year.

Whilst he did not make it into the top three on his bigger bikes (after mum insisting on one bike being packed away after two big crashes on it in the three round finals) he finished a creditable 6th and 8th in these events.

His younger brother Patrick also competed on two bikes and had a rough weekend flipping 1 bike and having a crash on the other but hopes to do better next year when he is a year older.

Thomas would like to thanks all his sponsors for this year and most of all his family Andy, Sue and Patrick Duggan for all the travelling, time, support, cheering, "healthy" race day food and just all the adventures that he has had whilst travelling racing this year and his great base of supporters (you know who you are!!!) who have travelled to various events to watch him race this year! "Can't wait to start it all again in February!!"
