DUNTRYLEAGUE VOTED OUT OF VETS
At the AGM of the Central Western Veteran Golfers held last Monday the current hard-working board was re-elected: Brian Wright as President; Ron Simmons as Secretary and Arthur Fuller as Treasurer. Hans Jeuken was elected Captain to replace Leo Graham who did not stand for re-election.
President Brian Wright reported that the 2008-09 season had been most successful with 23 events held averaging 92 players per game.
The major trophies for the year were won by Kevin Flanagan and Ian Forrester.
In general business Alan Ralston, a director of Duntryleague, moved a motion for the re-entry of Duntryleague into the Central Western Vets 2009-10 program.
He stated that Duntryleague would charge the same fees as other clubs for each event played at the course but would charge a $10 fee for visitors who brought their own carts to the course.
The cart fee was less than the normal fee of $20 charged to other visitors and was necessary to maintain present cart paths and build new ones. This motion was soundly rejected by the assembled throng via a show of hands.
A Grade winner on a day lashed by cold winds and perplexing greens was Max Madden from Ex Services with 35 points. The CCR for the day was 34 indicating the difficulties faced.
B Grade winner was Warwick Boyce from Duntryleague with 38 points who had the best score of the 96 players on the day.
Trophy winner were: Brian Keegan (36), Trevor Morely (35) and big hitting Bill Kersop (35) from Ex Services; Terry McGowan (35), new recruit Bruce Clements (34) and Matt Winwood-Smith (33) from Bathurst; recent returnee Reg Gentles and red hot Rob Warboys from Duntryleague; and popular treasurer Arthur Fuller (34) and Alan Stevenson (34) from Wentworth.
Winwood-Smith used the wind to advantage on the par five 15th to easily reach the green in two shots whilst Manuel Pro played his third shot on the 3rd from tree branches two metres above the ground despite the wind tormenting the tree.
Jan Dickie from Bathurst won the ladies comp with 35 points from Marg Smith with 31.
Closest to the pins were: Es Davis, Bob Bearup, Doug Collins, Roger Groves and Terry McGowan.
The next Vets event will be held at Blayney on November 9. Secretary Ron Simmons stated that the Blayney course is in top condition.
Brochures with entry forms for the City of Orange Veterans Golf Classic to be held in March 2010 will be sent out next week so get your entry in early and be assured of a spot.
