Traffic on the Mid Western Highway was disrupted for four hours last Thursday January 28 when a semi-trailer travelling South West on the highway overturned while negotiating a left hand bend.
Inspector Tony Hoolahan from Chifley Local Area Command said that the driver of the prime mover and trailer could not recall what happened to cause the accident at about 4:45pm.
“It appears that the trailer shifted and forced the heavy vehicle onto the incorrect side of the road where it collided with an embankment, rolled and came into contact with the guard rail,” he said.
The trailer of the vehicle was fully loaded at the time of the accident with 23 tonnes of floor boards cleared from the road by members of the Blayney Rural Fire Service and Blayney State Emergency Services and police.
The driver was taken to Blayney hospital for treatment to minor injuries before he was later transferred to Orange Base Hospital. He was released later that day.
It is believed that heavy rain and wind contributed to the accident Inspector Hoolahan said.
