Cycleway planned to link cul-de-sacs

19 Nov, 2009 05:10 PM
Blayney bike riders are set to benefit from a new cycleway that will link all the cul-de-sacks in the South of Blayney with Mount Errol Street.

Director of Engineering Grant Baker said that work on the $45, 100 project is set to start in the new year.

“The Council will enter into a funding agreement with the government first, and once we are all happy with that, it will go ahead,” he said.

Blayney will be receiving $22, 568 towards the Blayney Cycleway Linkages project to construct a two metre-wide, 580 metre-long concrete cycleway to link the residential areas of South Blayney and Heritage Park with the centre of town.

Minister for infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, Anthony Albanese, announced that $291, 000 will be spent on three bike path projects in the central west including one in Bathurst and Molong.

This project is apart of the $40 million National Bike paths Projects fund, a key element of the Economic Stimulus Plan.

These projects will supply the area with long term advantages.

Mr Anthony Albanese said “Together, these projects will support 17 jobs and six traineeships during construction and into the longer term,” he said

"By providing better cycling infrastructure, the Government is helping take cars off local roads and reducing carbon emissions over the longer term.”
