The Blayney Shire Council is continuing their push to reopen the Blayney to Demondrille rail line after the recent community cabinet meeting held in Bathurst.
Blayney Shire Council General Manager, Aaron Jones, said that the Blayney Council met with Minister for Transport Anthony Albanese in relation to the rail line and the recent review that was undertaken to find a suitable solution for the closed line.
“We explained to him the need for the line to be reopened but we encouraged the government not to make a decision until the independent review of the line takes place,” he said.
Mr Jones said that although the minister gave no commitment to reopening the line he was interested in finding out more about what impact the rail line had on the community.
“We invited him to send someone from his office out to meet with the mayors of the councils at the site,” he said.
The community cabinet meeting that saw Prime Minister Kevin Rudd visit the Central West gave the Centroc council group a chance to discuss the Lake Rowlands expansion proposal that was released as part of a recent review into the region’s future water supply.
Mr Jones said that the council is yet to receive a response from the Minister for Local Government in regards to their recent application to use the special rate to rebuild the community centre.
