THE NSW Government has declared the Blayney Shire a natural disaster area in the wake of heavy rainfall and flooding which drenched the region earlier this month.

Affected residents will now have access to a number of disaster assistance schemes to help with the cost of recovering from the natural disaster.
Blayney Shire Mayor Bruce Kingham has welcomed the declaration, which will also give council funds to help meet expensive road and infrastructure repair bills.
"A lot of damage has been done and it's going to cost the council a lot of money to repair bridges and roads," Cr Kingham said.
"The flood money will help council get on with the job of repairing roads much quicker.
"The declaration will also allows private residents to apply for rural assistance."
Emergency Services Minister Michael Gallacher made the declaration last Friday.
He said the natural disaster declaration will provide affected Blayney Shire residents with access to a number of disaster assistance schemes funded by the state and federal governments.
