On three days last week a large number of students were exposed to these messages in a number of ways.
Wednesday saw the annual Wheelchair Basketball challenge at CentrePoint with a large number of our Year 9 PDHPE students involved. Competition was fierce between Blayney, Kelso High and Canobolas Rural Technology High with the final between Blayney and Kelso going down to the wire with a 2-point victory to Kelso.
This was perhaps one of the youngest teams we have used, so future victories may be built on using this core team perhaps as our basis.
On Thursday the Beach came to the Bush! In what proved a very exciting and fun activity for Year 7 and 8 students, as well as a number of workshops on Talking Tactics – Saying No to Drugs & Alcohol, Road Safety and Fitness Activities.
The message throughout all sessions was that you can have fun, be involved in lots of things, stay healthy but also look after yourself by being aware of the risks. Wheelchair Basketball for example is a fun activity but our students got up and walked away! How would it be if you couldn’t?
On Friday it was the primary students’ turn when across 3 Heritage school sites all students were involved in our annual KLA day.
This year it was PDHPE’s turn and, with the organisation of Maureen Dickson, we were able to turn it into 3 days of celebration.
Stage 3 students were at Blayney High School and had a fantastic day. ‘Beach to Bush’, Wheelchair Basketball and ‘Games Sense’ led by CSU students kept them all engaged and active, whilst Cyberbullying informed and educated.
Students also benefited from mixing with the Stage 4 students and the many Year 9/10 helpers that offered assistance in any way they could.
I thank all involved and look forward to our Heritage involvement continuing later this term with our annual Art Show and Competition.
